Subject Line: Please Support HB 105 – A Lake Plate to Fund Cyanobacteria Mitigation

Dear Senator McConkey,

As a resident of Madison and a member of the SLAM, I’m writing to respectfully urge you to support HB 105 when it comes before the Senate Transportation Committee in executive session on October 23, 2025.

HB 105 would create a new “Love NH Lakes” conservation license plate, with proceeds directed to the Cyanobacteria Mitigation Loan and Grant Fund—a critical funding source for helping local lake associations and water suppliers protect the health of New Hampshire’s lakes, drinking water, and lake-based economy.

Why This Matters to Our Community

Cyanobacteria blooms are a growing threat to lakes across our state, harming public health, recreation, property values, and tourism. Our own lake — Silver Lake — recently experienced a cyanobacteria bloom. Such blooms disrupt recreation, raise health concerns, and highlight the urgent need for additional resources to prevent future outbreaks.

Unfortunately, the Cyanobacteria Mitigation Fund, established by the Legislature just two sessions ago, is already nearly depleted. To make matters worse, the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services may lose key EPA funding needed to fight the nutrient pollution that fuels these blooms.

Creating a lake-themed conservation plate through HB 105 offers a voluntary, sustainable, and cost-effective solution that allows residents to directly support lake health and water quality initiatives.

I Would Purchase the Lake Plate

As a resident who registers their vehicles in New Hampshire, I would personally support this program.

[Select one of the following options]

I currently have a Moose Plate license plate and would keep it, and I’d also purchase a “Love NH Lakes” plate for my second vehicle.

I don’t have a Moose Plate license plate, but I would purchase a “Love NH Lakes” license plate when it becomes available.

Clean, healthy lakes are a defining part of our quality of life in New Hampshire.

HB 105 is a commonsense, forward-looking bill that helps protect what we value most—our water, our communities, and our shared future. I respectfully urge your support for HB 105. Thank you for your leadership and for listening to the voices of constituents who live on and care for our lakes.

Sincerely,
